In 1964, Ford went to the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the intention of beating Ferrari, but they did not achieve this goal. So then, in 1966, they returned and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Then they won it again three more times in a row. Then, 50 years later, Ford returned to the famous race with a brand new Ford GT. This time the big V-8 was replaced with a 3.5-liter Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V-6 with intercoolers. It won the very competitive GTE-Pro class and celebrated a triumphant return.
The Ford GT factory racing effort is run by the ultra-successful Chip Ganassi Racing Team. In addition to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the team competes in both the IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championships. The winning tradition started with the original GT-40s and continues today. Just like the originals, a very limited number of street-legal Ford GTs will be offered to the public for a very short time.
