This is a reproduction of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Type A destroyer Yukikaze during Operation Ten-Ichi-Go. In April 1945, the Second Fleet was formed with the battleship Yamato, the light cruiser Yahagi, and eight destroyers. Yukikaze joined the battle line along with sister ships Isokaze and Hamakaze. On the afternoon of April 6, the fleet set out from the Seto Inland Sea to rescue Okinawa. This operation, named "Operation Ten-Ichi-Go," had no aircraft support and the chances of survival were extremely low. Yukikaze fought a fierce air defense battle with other ships, but history shows that Yamato met a heroic end. Yukikaze lived up to its name as a lucky ship and survived this operation, returning to Kure.
