The original Ford GT was developed by Ford in 1964 to win the great 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France. The company wanted to make the statement that they could compete with the best in the world. After the first couple of tries, the Ford GT won the Le Mans race 4 years in a row. On the 50th anniversary of the first win, Ford has developed an all-new Ford GT using the most advanced technologies.
The car was introduced at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and it was a real show stopper. Under its very unique bodywork is a lightweight frame made of carbon fiber. The unique shape also creates a very narrow cockpit for better aerodynamics. It is powered by a 600-horsepower, 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, fully tested in the Daytona Prototype series.
