The McDonnell Douglas F-15D/DJ Eagle is a two-seater version of the F-15C/J Eagle, an air superiority fighter used by the U.S. Air Force and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force as a successor to the F-4. Although it is a two-seater, it is only slightly heavier, and its flight performance and weapon systems are almost the same as those of the single-seater. Therefore, it can be used not only for its original role of control transfer training, but also as a two-seater fighter with dual controls for air superiority combat and ground attacks. The F-15E Strike Eagle is a further development of the fighter-bombing capabilities of the F-15.
