P-38J The P-38J, which was very active in the European and Pacific theaters of World War II, especially attracted more attention as a twin-engine fighter.

A total of 2,970 J-types were produced, and many modifications were made from the early models to this J-type. In particular, the radiator section of the J-type took up a wider space aerodynamically, allowing P-38 pilots to have each Allison engine produce a total of 1,425 horsepower at an altitude of 26,000 feet.

The flight control system was modified in two stages. First, a hydraulic booster was added to the aileron control system to improve the rotation rate compared to the P38, and third, dive flaps or compression flaps were newly installed under the wings. In fact, the P38 had problems with compressibility from the beginning. That is, it often showed speed loss and climb loss at maximum speed, but Kelly Johnson pointed out that the actual problem was wing lift, and from the P38J25, a set of flaps were attached to the underside of the wing, completely solving this problem.

Along with this, the landing lights were also moved to the front of the left wing. The P38J, which was active in the European and Pacific theaters during World War II, attracted even more attention as a twin-engine, twin-winged fighter.
