The PLA Navy Type 002 aircraft carrier Shandong is the first domestically-made aircraft carrier equipped by the Chinese Navy. The aircraft carrier was launched on April 26th, 2017, and after a series of trials and trainings, Shandong (pennant number 17) was commissioned into the PLA Navy on December 17, 2019 as PLA Navy’s second aircraft carrier. Compared with the previous Type 001 Liaoning, Shandong has various improvements in electronic equipment and aviation support equipment, which have enhanced her combat effectiveness.
