Dragon continues its popular focus on Israeli vehicles in its 1/35 scale plastic kit range. After previously releasing a 2-in-1 kit of the Magach 1/2 tank and Magach 3 kits, momentum has swung to another variant in this family. This time it’s the Magach 5 as used by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This particular kit depicts a Magach 5 fitted with explosive reactive armor (ERA) plus a front-mounted mine roller assembly. The Magach 5 was based on the M48A5 tank, which Israel received about 150 M48A5s in the late 1970s and they were eventually fitted with Blazer ERA. The mine roller assembly fitted onto the front of the tank, and the rollers would detonate mines through their own weight exerting pressure on the ground. Thus equipped, such an AFV could negotiate a minefield or prove a route, with the heavy mine rollers preventing any damage to the tank itself. Huge enthusiasm for this kit is expected for this Magach 5 with full ERA suite, plus the enormous bonus of the set of mine rollers too. Mounted on the hull front, the two arms supporting five heavy rollers are beautifully replicated, with details such as weld seams all true to scale. Additionally, there’s a generous selection of photo-etched parts for delicate elements such as tool brackets and tow cable brackets, plus the tank uses one-piece tracks made from DS for added convenience. The 105mm main gun weatherproof mantlet cover is also made from DS to ensure maximum realism. Now that this incredibly detailed kit of a Magach tank sporting all these extras is available, model fans have even more inspiration.
