    Historical Significance

    The Mark 7 was the first tactical fission bomb adopted by the United States military in 1952. Unlike strategic weapons intended for long-range bombers, the Mk-7 was designed for tactical fighter-bomber delivery, bringing nuclear capability to frontline aircraft. It remained in service from 1952 to 1967, with approximately 1,700 to 1,800 units produced during its operational lifetime.

    Delivery System

    The Mark 7 was designed for toss bombing with the Low-Altitude Bombing System. A fighter-bomber could approach at low altitude, pull into a steep climb, release the weapon in an upward arc, and escape the blast radius before detonation. Its retractable stabilizer fins folded for carriage on standard bomb racks and deployed for aerodynamic stability after release.

    Warhead and NATO Service

    The W7 warhead formed the basis for several weapon systems, including the BOAR rocket, Mark 90 Betty nuclear depth charge, MGR-1 Honest John tactical rocket, and MGM-5 Corporal ballistic missile. Under Project E, Mark 7 weapons were also supplied for Royal Air Force Canberra aircraft assigned to NATO forces in Germany.

    This ordnance is suited to 1/48 aircraft subjects associated with Mark 7 carriage, including F-100 Super Sabre, F-86 Sabre, F-84 Thunderjet and Thunderstreak, F-101 Voodoo, A-4 Skyhawk, and RAF English Electric Canberra variants. Confirm the pylon, rack, and period-specific configuration for the model you are building.

    3D Printing Information

    The print is designed and 3D printed in resin in-house by MPM Hobbies. It is shipped unpainted with 3D supports attached. Color images are for display purposes only. The part is printed with UV-cured resin and may show light horizontal striations from the printing process. Prime it with a primer suitable for resin, then paint with acrylic, lacquer, or enamel products as appropriate for your finish.

    Remove supports carefully with a sharp hobby knife, starting at the tip and freeing supports connected to small or fragile details. Test-fit the weapon to the aircraft's pylon or bomb rack before final assembly. CA adhesive is recommended for attaching the part or filling small imperfections. The fine details can be brittle, so this accessory is intended for experienced modelers and is not a children's toy.
