Ka-29 “Helix-B” was an assault-transport carrier-base helicopter designed by Russia. The project was started in 1973 and used a Ka-27 ship-born helicopter as the basis for the project. The first flight was on July 28, 1976, by test pilot E.I. Laryushin. The State acceptance trials were completed in May 1979. Series production started in 1984. Three years later, a new helicopter was spotted by NATO reconnaissance aboard large landing ship "Ivan Rogov".
