Tamiya Mazda Savanna RX-7
Build the iconic Mazda Savanna RX-7 from Tamiya! This 1/24 scale model kit captures the sleek lines and revolutionary rotary engine design that made the RX-7 a legend when it debuted in 1978.
Historical Background
The Mazda RX-7 quickly became a hit with automotive fans in the mid-1970s. The Mazda Savanna RX-7 made its debut in 1978, featuring sleek lines on its lightweight monocoque body with low-profile nose and retractable headlights. The two-rotor rotary engine was capable of 130hp, and the front midship layout gave the car optimal weight distribution—one of the secrets to its exemplary handling. In 1980, Mazda gave the RX-7 a minor model change, making the SE Limited model the most luxurious of the four types on offer. Creature comforts such as the sunroof and bucket-type leather seats were joined by aluminum wheels, while reducing weight by over 30 kilograms and refining its nose further improved fuel efficiency.
