This is a 1/350 scale plastic model kit of the German destroyer Z-43 as she appeared in 1944, made by Trumpeter. It is aimed at experienced naval modelers who want a detailed World War II destroyer for the display shelf.
Z-43 was commissioned on March 24, 1944 as a Type 1936B destroyer. Three ships of the class were commissioned and the other two were never completed. Type 1936A destroyers were intended to carry their forward guns in a twin turret, but the turrets were not ready in time, so the ships initially carried single-mounted guns. When the turrets were finally fitted, they proved too heavy for the existing structures. Strengthening was added at the bow, but this did little to improve seakeeping. For these reasons, the main armament of the Type 1936B destroyers reverted to single-mounted 127 mm guns. The change was never proven in high seas, as the class operated only in the Baltic and coastal waters.
