Zara heavy cruiser on July 4, 1929, in the the Otto Group La Spezia shipyard started, launched on April 27, 1930, to be completed by October 20, 1931.

After the completion of the "Zara", it was incorporated into the first clan cruiser detachments. Thereafter, until 1940, when Italy entered the war, the ship was in the squad. Collective upgrade battleship during the transformation, the temporary exit sequence, September 1, 1933 to September 15, 1937, "Zara" served as a clan flagship. Throughout the summer of 1940, Zara-class ships covered transit to North Africa. In September, British troops intercepted British troops on the island of Malta from Alexandria Transit. On November 27, Zara was participating in the Battle of Wu Lada when she was struck and injured by the enemy. March 29, 1941, Zara. On the Cape Matapan naval battle, the British Royal Navy battleships HMS Warspite, HMS Valiant and HMS Barham of the main gun at close range wounded the last torpedo that sank the British destroyer.
