The Grumman F-14A Tomcat is the United States Navy's main carrier-based fighter.

The F-14 is equipped with the AWG-9 fire control system, which allows it to capture targets at a distance of about 166 km and track up to 24 targets. Moreover, it can simultaneously attack up to six of these targets with AIM-54 Phoenix missiles (maximum range of about 185 km), giving it unrivaled multi-target simultaneous attack capability.

Another feature is the variable sweep wing. This variable wing changes the sweep angle of the main wing by the Mach sweep program computer to always obtain the optimal lift-to-drag ratio.

In addition, the sweep angle for storage is 75 degrees, making it easy to handle on the aircraft carrier deck.

The D model was the latest model, with performance improvements achieved by upgrading the engine to a General Electric F-110-GE-400 and the fire control system to an APG-71.
