Fueling the Fightback

The 2 1/2 ton fuel truck was a vital cog in the U.S. military machine during WWII, supporting the American drive for air supremacy with its work refueling and oiling a whole manner of aircraft. In fact, it was a variant of a commonly-used 2 1/2 ton truck that had its cargo bed replaced with a massive tank and pump mechanism, the side of the tank featured doors which allowed the crew access to pump the fuel. It was typically crewed by 2, featured 6-wheel drive which allowed it to tackle poor surfaces, and was powered by a 6-cylinder 4-stroke engine. It particularly proved its worth once the U.S. began to capture airfields near the front line without refueling facilities.

About the Model

• This is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit of the U.S. 2 1/2ton fuel truck.

• The tank-side doors can be assembled in closed or open position, and parts are also included to depict the hose reel, with vinyl tubing and enamel wire to recreate the hose itself.
