Historical Significance:

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was the largest and heaviest single-engine fighter of World War II, earning legendary status for its ruggedness and firepower. Powered by the massive Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine producing 2,000 horsepower, the P-47D could carry an impressive bomb load while maintaining eight .50 caliber machine guns.
