A&A Models Ekranoplan - 1/72 Scale Ground Effect Vehicle Model Kit

Build one of aviation history's most extraordinary vehicles with this 1/72 scale Ekranoplan model kit from A&A Models. This detailed plastic model kit represents the revolutionary Soviet ground effect vehicle that combined aircraft and watercraft technology to create a unique high-speed transport capable of skimming just meters above the water's surface.

What is an Ekranoplan?

The Ekranoplan (Russian: экранопла́н) was a groundbreaking Soviet-era vehicle that exploited the ground effect phenomenon—increased lift and decreased drag when flying very close to a surface. Developed during the Cold War, these massive wing-in-ground-effect (WIG) craft traveled at high speeds just above the water, making them difficult to detect by radar while carrying heavy payloads.

The most famous example, the KM "Caspian Sea Monster," was one of the largest aircraft ever built, measuring over 300 feet long with a 130-foot wingspan. Ekranoplans combined aircraft speed with ship payload capacity, representing a unique solution to Soviet military transport needs. Though the program was eventually discontinued, these vehicles remain one of the most fascinating examples of Cold War aviation innovation.
