About HMS Iron Duke:
HMS Iron Duke was a dreadnought battleship of the Royal Navy, the lead ship of her class, launched in 1912. She served as the flagship of the Grand Fleet during World War I, commanded by Admiral Sir John Jellicoe. Her most famous action came at the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916, the largest naval battle of WWI, where she led the British Grand Fleet against the German High Seas Fleet. During the battle, Iron Duke fired ninety rounds from her main battery and scored several hits on German battleships. The ship remained in service through the interwar period and into World War II, though by then she had been converted to a gunnery training ship. HMS Iron Duke represents the pinnacle of British dreadnought battleship design and played a crucial role in maintaining British naval supremacy during the Great War.
