The Tiger I Heavy Tank (Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. E Tiger I) was Nazi Germany's formidable heavy tank during World War II, serving from 1942 until Germany's surrender in 1945

Initially designated PzKpfw VI Ausf. H in March 1943, it was later redesigned as the Ausf. E (Ausführung, meaning "version"). The "Tiger" nickname was coined by Ferdinand Porsche, and its core design philosophy influenced other German armored vehicles, including:

  • The Tiger II (King Tiger) tank
  • The Sturmtiger assault gun
