MPM Hobbies not for everyone
Our store IS NOT for everyone and that is ok, most stores aren't. We can only offer our low prices because we keep our overhead down as much as we can. So, what does that really mean?
1. My wife, two daughters and I work out of our house. That’s it! That is our buying department, shipping, customer service (Pat handles that), packing department, ordering, web design and services, 3D print department, advertising etc..etc..
2. We have to hit the minimum thresholds with our distributors to meet their free shipping promotions before we can order. Our margins are too low to pay for additional shipping.
3. We do not have room for a large inventory.
4. We still have expenditures such as packing materials, resins, boxes, electricity, apps, all sorts of fees, accounting, gas etc.. so it isn't just profit profit profit.
5. My wife teaches and my two girls are in college and high school.
6. We have a small inventory at our house, but we are basically the middleman between the customer and the distributor. They have what you want, and we try to get it to you. Maintaining huge inventories cost money and that drives up prices. I want to give you a wide selection at great prices, but the drawback is that we order after you order.
7. We have no interface that updates inventory quantities between us and the distributors. We update as we go but sometimes, they sell out faster than we anticipate.
So why open the business if it’s such a pain? My girls have a flexible job, and I have always wanted a Hobby Shop. Also, majority of our customers we deal with on a weekly basis are worth it. Nice people who are tired of spending a bundle on hobbies. They like our prices and they understand the wait.
It’s the wait that I hope to address. Bottom line is we are trying to offer a wide selection at low prices, and we just can’t do that with a business our size and be fast. We can’t compete with the bigger companies and if we could then you would be paying more.
So, who is our store for? Those who are willing to wait, not impatient and understand what our business is all about and how we do things. If you want to know more then just call and talk to Pat (904) 885-0559.
