Tamiya Paint Systems for Scale Modeling

Tamiya produces one of the most comprehensive and respected paint systems in scale modeling, covering every stage of the finishing process — from surface preparation through final weathering effects.

Acrylic Paints

The Tamiya Acrylic Paint line includes the X-series gloss and XF-series flat formulas in 10ml and 23ml bottles. Water-based and low-odor, these paints are ideal for brush and airbrush application on plastic, resin, and metal surfaces. Colors span military, automotive, and fantasy palettes, making them versatile for 1/35 armor, 1/48 aircraft, and 1/24 automotive subjects.

Enamel Panel Line Washes

Tamiya Panel Line Accent Colors are pre-thinned enamel washes in 40ml bottles, available in black, grey, brown, dark brown, and dark grey. Designed to flow into recessed panel lines by capillary action, they deliver crisp, professional detail enhancement with minimal effort. Compatible with acrylic base coats when used with appropriate enamel thinner.

Lacquer Paints

Tamiya Lacquer Paints include the AS-series military aircraft aerosols, LP-series 10ml bottles, and TS-series general-purpose spray cans. AS-series colors replicate authentic Luftwaffe RLM, RAF, USAF, USN, and IJA/IJN schemes for accurate military vehicle and aircraft finishing. Fast-drying with excellent durability, lacquers are well-suited for airbrushing and rattle-can application alike.

Polycarbonate Paints

The Tamiya PS-Series Polycarbonate Spray Paints are formulated specifically for lexan RC car bodies. Available in standard, metallic, fluorescent, translucent, and iridescent finishes in 100ml aerosol cans, they bond directly to polycarbonate without primer and resist chipping under RC use conditions. Primers

Tamiya Primers include fine surface primer sprays in grey, white, and pink (180ml), as well as liquid surface primers in 40ml bottles. Fine surface primers reveal surface imperfections before painting and provide a consistent tooth for acrylic and lacquer topcoats. The pink primer is particularly effective under red and yellow finish coats for improved color vibrancy.

Thinners, Cleaners & Retarders

Tamiya Thinners, Cleaners, and Retarders include X-20A Acrylic Thinner (10ml and 250ml), LP-10 Lacquer Thinner (10ml and 250ml), Acrylic Paint Retarder for extended open time, and Airbrush Cleaner (250ml) for equipment maintenance. Using manufacturer-matched thinners ensures proper paint viscosity, adhesion, and finish quality across the Tamiya paint system.

Weathering & Texture

Tamiya Weathering Master Sets (A through H) use a dry-pigment applicator system to add subtle rust streaks, exhaust stains, mud deposits, and snow effects to finished models. Diorama Texture Paints replicate realistic ground surfaces including dark earth, sandy ground, and light sand. These products are essential for completing diorama bases and adding battlefield realism to armor models.
