The Type 63 multiple rocket launcher was developed by the People's Republic of China in the early 1960s as a mobile artillery system capable of delivering devastating area saturation fire. Based on Soviet rocket artillery concepts, the Type 63 featured twelve 107mm rocket tubes mounted on a lightweight wheeled carriage that could be towed by trucks or even manhandled by infantry crews. This portability made it ideal for guerrilla warfare and rapid deployment operations. The system could fire its entire salvo of twelve rockets in approximately 7-9 seconds, delivering high-explosive fragmentation warheads to ranges up to 8.5 kilometers. The Type 63 saw extensive combat use during the Vietnam War and later in numerous conflicts across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
