Historical Reference
The AN-M41A1 20-pound fragmentation bomb was clustered in the AN-M1A2/AN-M1A3 cluster adapter, which held six bombs in two banks of three. The adapter used a quick-opening frame mechanism that released bombs upon withdrawal of the arming wires. Fuzing was performed before installation in the aircraft.
The AN-M1A2 cluster differs from the AN-M1A1 in its use of the M1A3 adapter with flat steel suspension lugs, versus the narrower U-type lugs of the earlier M1A1/M1A2 adapters. For additional historical reference, see US Cluster 100 lb Frag AN-M1A2 (bulletpicker.com).
