About the K21 Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The K21 is South Korea's next-generation infantry fighting vehicle, developed domestically by Doosan DST and entering service with the R.O.K. Army in 2009. Designed to replace the aging K200 series APCs, the K21 represents a significant leap in Korean armored vehicle technology. The vehicle features composite armor protection, a two-man turret armed with a 40mm automatic cannon and 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and can carry up to nine infantry soldiers. Powered by a Doosan DV27K diesel engine producing 750 horsepower, the K21 can reach speeds of 70 km/h on roads and features amphibious capability with water jet propulsion. The IFV incorporates advanced fire control systems, thermal imaging, and can be equipped with anti-tank guided missiles. The K21's modular armor design allows for upgrades to counter evolving threats, and its network-centric warfare capabilities enable seamless integration with other Korean military systems. The vehicle has been exported to several countries and continues to serve as the backbone of South Korea's mechanized infantry forces.
