The T-34-85 was the definitive version of the legendary T-34 medium tank, featuring an upgraded 85mm ZiS-S-53 main gun and enlarged three-man turret. Introduced in early 1944, the T-34-85 was developed to counter the German Tiger and Panther tanks while maintaining the T-34's excellent mobility and reliability. Tank Factory No.183, originally located in Kharkov, was evacuated to the Urals in 1941 following the German invasion and became one of the Soviet Union's most productive tank manufacturing facilities. Operating in Nizhny Tagil, Factory No.183 produced thousands of T-34s under incredibly harsh conditions, with workers enduring freezing temperatures and working around the clock to supply the Red Army. The factory's T-34-85s featured distinctive production characteristics and played crucial roles in major Soviet offensives from 1944 through the end of the war. The T-34-85 proved highly effective in combat, combining firepower, armor protection, and mobility in a design that influenced tank development for decades.
