Master Box kit 3551 is a 1/35 scale plastic figure set depicting Maquis fighters of the French Resistance. It is intended for experienced modelers building WWII European dioramas and vignettes.
Maquis (or maquisards) is a collective term for members of the French Resistance who fought the German occupation between 1940 and 1944, mainly in rural areas. The first units formed from people who fled to the countryside and mountains to avoid conscription to the STO organization in the Vichy state and forced labor for the occupier. Over time, volunteers joined them seeking armed struggle.
Maquis units carried out guerrilla warfare, sabotage, and ambushes on small German detachments, fighting especially intensively in Brittany, southern France, and the Limousin region. They also helped Allied airmen and Jewish civilians escape or hide, and played a role during Operation Overlord and the landings in southern France.
Organizations of La Resistance began to appear in 1940, shortly after the fall of France, opposing the German and Italian occupiers as well as the collaborating Vichy institutions. Many separate groups existed until February 1944, when they were brought together as the French Internal Forces (Forces Francaises de l'Interieur), a strictly military body that included both communist and right-wing units and supported the Allied invasion of Normandy and the liberation of France.
This kit is unassembled and requires assembly. Cement, paints, and modeling tools are not included and are needed to complete the figures.
