Academy Lockheed T-33A Shooting Star - 1/48 Scale Jet Trainer

Build the legendary jet trainer that trained generations of pilots with this 1/48 scale Lockheed T-33A Shooting Star model kit from Academy Models. This kit represents the iconic two-seat trainer derived from America's first operational jet fighter, the P-80 Shooting Star.

About the Lockheed T-33A Shooting Star

The Lockheed T-33A Shooting Star, affectionately known as the "T-Bird," was developed from the P-80/F-80 Shooting Star fighter by adding a second seat and extending the fuselage. First flying in 1948, the T-33A became the most widely used jet trainer in aviation history, serving with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy (as the TV-2), and over 30 foreign air forces. Powered by an Allison J33 turbojet engine, the T-33A provided student pilots with their first experience in jet aircraft, teaching them the fundamentals of high-speed flight, jet engine management, and advanced aerobatics. The aircraft's docile handling characteristics and reliability made it ideal for training, while its performance capabilities prepared pilots for transition to frontline fighters. Over 6,500 T-33As were produced between 1948 and 1959, and many remained in service well into the 1990s. The T-Bird's distinctive profile, with its tip tanks and sleek fuselage, became synonymous with jet pilot training during the Cold War era.
