About the IJN Musashi - Operation Sho Ichigo:

The Musashi was the second Yamato-class battleship built for the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. By October 1944, during Operation Sho Ichigo (the Japanese response to the Allied invasion of the Philippines), Musashi had been significantly modified with additional anti-aircraft guns to counter the growing threat of American air power. On October 24, 1944, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Musashi endured one of the most intense aerial attacks in naval history, absorbing an estimated 19 torpedo and 17 bomb hits before finally sinking in the Sibuyan Sea—a testament to her incredible construction and the bravery of her crew.

Perfect For:

  • Advanced modelers seeking a challenging full hull build with premium details
  • Naval history enthusiasts focused on the Battle of Leyte Gulf and late-war Pacific operations
  • Collectors building a complete IJN battleship fleet in 1/700 scale
  • Diorama builders recreating the dramatic final battles of the Imperial Japanese Navy
