About the IJN Atago
The Atago was the lead ship of her class of heavy cruisers, serving as the flagship of Vice Admiral Takeo Kurita during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. The Atago was torpedoed and sunk by the USS Darter on October 23, 1944, during the opening stages of the battle.
