About the Memphis Belle

The B-17F 'Memphis Belle' flew her 25th and final mission on May 17, 1943, becoming one of the first B-17s in the Eighth Air Force to complete a full tour of duty. Named after pilot Captain Robert K. Morgan's sweetheart, the aircraft and her crew became symbols of American determination and courage during World War II. The Memphis Belle returned to the United States for a war bond tour and was later restored for permanent display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
