About the Spitfire PR.XIX:

The reconnaissance Spitfire PR.XIX was unarmed but could fly at 370mph at 40,000 feet and had a range of 1,500 miles. Mk.XIX Spitfires represent the top end of development of the Spitfire, combining the powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon engine with a pressurized cockpit and extended wingtips for exceptional high-altitude performance. These aircraft were equipped with sophisticated camera equipment in place of armament, relying on speed and altitude for protection. The PR.XIX served not only during the final stages of World War II but continued in RAF service well into the 1950s, providing vital photographic intelligence during the early Cold War period.
