The Spitfire was the most famous and primary single-engine fighter of the United Kingdom during World War II. From the maiden flight of its first prototype in 1936, the Spitfire underwent continuous upgrades, including the adoption of two different liquid-cooled engines. It not only played a crucial role in maintaining British air superiority but also saw combat across various theaters such as Europe, North Africa, and Asia, serving Allied nations as well. After the war, it even participated in conflicts in the Middle East.

Alongside the German Luftwaffe's Bf 109, the Spitfire was one of the two most pivotal fighter aircraft in the European theater - a rivalry that lasted from the early stages of the war all the way to its conclusion.
