This kit recreates the Ki-46-III Kai air defense fighter version of the Type 100 Command Reconnaissance Aircraft (Ki-46).

The Ki-46-III Kai was an air defense fighter variant equipped with two 20mm cannons in the nose. When a single upward-firing 37mm cannon was added to the upper central fuselage, it was designated the Ki-46-III Kai+Hei.
