About the Corsair
The Corsair is one of the best-known airplanes of World War II, flown against the full array of aircraft used by Japanese forces in the Pacific Theater. After the war many Corsairs were set aside alongside other propeller-driven types, awaiting replacement by jet aircraft. In 1950, at the outbreak of the Korean conflict, more than one hundred were reactivated. The Corsair proved robust and reliable, and in many roles superior to the first, rather delicate jets that eventually ended its service life.
