Lamplighter 2 (The most economical lighting source for multiple fiber optics).

The Lamplighter 2 is an innovative system using fiber optics to illuminate a variety of structures, lamp posts and building lights . Based on using a very intense light source underneath the train layout, individual fiber optics are then run into the space to be illuminated. The light source is 30x’s times brighter than a typical LED used in hobby applications, which allows lighting of buildings and creating street lamps that will really glow well. Indeed, the light output of a single 1.5mm fiber optic is 30 times greater than a typical 20mA LED.

Model train layouts really come alive utilizing a single source of intense light delivered by fiber optics! So, if you are lighting a diorama, a modular system, or any region of your model train layout, you will find this amazingly simple to use.

To light a structure all one has to do is snip off the appropriate length of an optical fiber, insert one end into the Lamplighter 2 box and run the other end up through a small hole into the structure. A grommet accepts the fibers and holds them inside the box. Each Lamplighter 2 box allows you to light up multiple structures, making the addition of lights into multiple structures very simple.

  • For N Scale layouts: recommend using 1.0mm diameter fibers to light buildings, and 0.75mm for street lamps
  • For HO Scale layouts: recommend using 1.5mm diameter fibers to light buildings, and 1.0mm for street lamps
  • For S Scale layouts: recommend using 1.5mm or 2mm diameter fibers to light buildings, and 1.5mm for street lamps
  • For O Scale layouts: recommend using 2mm diameter fibers to light buildings, and 1.5mm for street lamps
  • You can use 0.75mm and 0.5mm for lighting vehicles, trees and other small applications.
