The Estes 2244 MAXI Launch Rod is a two-piece 3/16 inch diameter launch rod for hobbyists flying larger, heavier model rockets. It gives bigger birds the extra length and stiffness they need to reach a stable flight speed off the pad.
Why Use a 3/16 Inch Launch Rod
A rocket needs roughly 30 mph before it leaves the rod to fly straight. The added length of this rod helps accelerate heavier rockets to that speed, and the thicker diameter resists flexing under the weight of larger models. It also doubles as an alignment tool for rockets that use two launch lugs.
