Whisker design

The #158 uses an integrated Whisker® centering design, so it does not require separate centering springs or a multi-piece coupler assembly. Its smaller head and knuckle provide a more prototypical look for HO scale rolling stock.

Compatibility and use

For a #38 equivalent, use the #158 with a #252 gearbox. Kadee Magne-Matic® couplers and uncouplers are designed to work together for hands-free coupling and uncoupling on a model railroad layout.

Important installation note

Do not use a metal coupler directly on a metal surface or in a metal draft gearbox. Use the provided insulated gearbox or an insulated #28 coupler to help avoid electrical crossover and shorting that could cause damage.
