Historical Context

The Arch Bar truck was common from the 1890s through the early 1900s and remained in interchange service until approximately 1941. On non-common-carrier lines such as logging and industrial railroads, these trucks continued in use well beyond that date. The Northern Pacific, for example, ran truss rod maintenance-of-way cars with Arch Bar trucks into the early 1970s.
