N Scale Motrak Models Wolfeboro Freight House Building Kit 13009
Recreate a piece of New Hampshire railroad history with the Motrak Models Wolfeboro Freight House. This impressive N scale structure kit represents the historic freight house built in 1871 that served as the focal point of freight traffic in and out of the small village of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. With its distinctive long, low profile and authentic architectural details, this kit brings prototypical New England railroading to your layout.
Historical Background
The Wolfeboro Freight House witnessed the rise and decline of branch line railroading in rural New England. Built in 1871, it served the community for decades as the hub of freight operations. As automobiles and buses gained popularity, service on the Wolfeboro short line gradually declined. The Boston and Maine Railroad, which acquired the Eastern Railroad, petitioned the I.C.C. to discontinue passenger service in 1935. Despite local businessmen fighting to preserve the line, the last scheduled passenger run departed on May 16, 1936, at 3:05 PM. Freight operations continued on a once-a-day basis, eventually declining to deliveries every three weeks, and by the late 1960s, service became sporadic with only a handful of trips per month.
