A&A Models Gee Bee R1/R2 - 1/48 Scale 1934-35 Racing Aircraft

Build one of aviation's most iconic racing aircraft with this 1/48 scale Gee Bee R1/R2 model kit from A&A Models. This detailed plastic model kit represents the legendary Granville Brothers racer in its 1934-35 configuration, capturing the distinctive barrel-shaped fuselage and stubby wings that made the Gee Bee one of the most recognizable and dangerous racing aircraft of the Golden Age of Air Racing.

About the Gee Bee R1/R2 Racing Aircraft

The Granville Brothers Gee Bee (Granville Brothers) R1 and R2 were purpose-built racing aircraft designed in the early 1930s to compete in the Thompson Trophy and other prestigious air races. These radical designs prioritized speed above all else, featuring the smallest possible airframe wrapped around the most powerful engine available.

The R1 won the 1932 Thompson Trophy at an average speed of 252 mph, while the R2 set speed records and thrilled crowds with its distinctive appearance and breathtaking performance. The 1934-35 versions represented refinements to the original designs, though the aircraft remained notoriously difficult to fly due to their extreme design compromises—the massive engine and minimal control surfaces created challenging handling characteristics.
