About the Handley Page Hampden:

The Handley Page Hampden was a British twin-engine medium bomber that served with RAF Bomber Command from 1938 to 1942. Nicknamed the "Flying Suitcase" due to its distinctive slim fuselage and deep bomb bay, the Hampden was one of the most important bombers during the early years of World War II. Despite its narrow fuselage which made crew movement difficult, the aircraft was fast, maneuverable, and could carry a respectable bomb load of 4,000 pounds. Hampdens participated in the first RAF bombing raid on Berlin and served extensively in night bombing operations before being replaced by four-engine heavy bombers. Many were later converted to torpedo bombers for Coastal Command service.
