About the Leopard 2 A7V

In 2017, the Bundeswehr initiated an upgrade program for the Leopard 2 fleet, resulting in the A7V variant—an enhanced version of the Leopard 2 A7 (itself an upgrade of the 2001 Leopard A6). The A7V features additional hull front armor to increase survivability, reinforced suspension systems, and improved operational capabilities. Its L/55 120mm main gun can engage enemy armor at ranges up to five kilometers. Design improvements include enhanced vision devices for poor visibility conditions, new track systems, and a redesigned turret rear basket. The Bundeswehr began receiving the first of 104 upgraded A7V tanks in September 2021.
