About the PZL P.11c

The PZL P.11c stands as one of the most iconic aircraft in Polish aviation history. Designed by Zygmunt Puławski and developed from the earlier P.7a, the P.11c featured the distinctive high-mounted gull wing that became synonymous with Polish fighters. When it entered service in 1934, the P.11c was one of the world's most advanced fighters, boasting all-metal construction, excellent maneuverability, and superior visibility for the pilot.

Powered by a Bristol Mercury radial engine and armed with four 7.92mm machine guns (with provisions for light bombs), the P.11c equipped the majority of Polish fighter squadrons by 1939. Though technologically advanced in the mid-1930s, by September 1939 the type was outclassed by modern German fighters like the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Despite this disadvantage, Polish pilots flying P.11c fighters fought with extraordinary courage and skill during the September Campaign.

Polish P.11c pilots achieved 126 confirmed aerial victories during the brief but intense September 1939 campaign, demonstrating that pilot skill and determination could partially offset technological disadvantage. The aircraft became a symbol of Polish resistance and the bravery of the Polish Air Force. Both marking options in this kit represent actual combat aircraft flown by pilots who achieved victories against the Luftwaffe, with markings hastily overpainted with camouflage colors after the outbreak of war.

The P.11c's legacy extends beyond its combat record—it represents a high point in Polish aviation design and the courage of those who flew it in Poland's darkest hour.
