About the Mirage III R

The Dassault Mirage III R was a dedicated reconnaissance variant of the famous Mirage III fighter, developed to provide the French Air Force with high-speed, high-altitude photo-reconnaissance capabilities. The R-variant featured a modified nose section housing five OMERA cameras in place of the fighter's radar and cannon armament. Powered by a SNECMA Atar 9C turbojet producing 13,230 pounds of thrust with afterburner, the Mirage III R could reach speeds of Mach 2.2 and operate at altitudes exceeding 55,000 feet. Its distinctive delta wing design provided excellent high-speed performance and maneuverability.
