The Shiden Kai was a full-fledged land-based fighter. It was officially adopted in January 1945, evolving from the Kyofu seaplane and the mid-wing Shiden, into its final low-wing configuration.

At the same time, the 343rd Naval Air Group (Ken-Butai) was formed to regain air superiority over mainland Japan. It was comprised of seasoned pilots from various squadrons and was exclusively equipped with the Shiden Kai, achieving significant combat results.

This kit reproduces the early production version with the larger vertical tail. The fuselage interior is designed with support parts for easy assembly and increased structural integrity. The cockpit can be installed from the bottom of the fuselage after the halves are joined.

The muzzles of the 20mm cannons in the wings are open thanks to slide-mold technology. Both the canopy and flaps can be built in either an open or closed position. The included pilot figure, sculpted by Ichiro Take, offers both intricate detail and a strong presence, with a choice of two different head options.
