Launched in 2002, the Jiao Long is the first operational deep-sea manned submersible designed and developed independently by China. It aims to provide a deep-sea carrying platform for international seabed resource surveys, seabed operations and scientific research in the China Sea, which is able to cover 99.8% of the Earth's seafloor. With a maximum diving depth of 7062 m, it was accepted and delivered in 2013.
