The first part of the monograph on the P-47 Thunderbolt constitutes a thorough insight into its origins and the development of the early versions of the aircraft from XP-47B prototype, through P-47B, C & G, to D-21/D-23 variants. All ‘razorback’ versions are specified and described. Afterwards, the book discusses the combat use of P-47s over Europe since their debut in this theatre of operations till the end of 1943. The author uncovers the fates of particular fighter units as well as individual pilots who fought in them.
