The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) was Germany's most widely produced armored vehicle in World War II. It used the chassis of the Panzer III tank but replaced the rotating turret with a fixed casemate structure and a more powerful gun. Initially designed to provide direct fire support for infantry, it evolved over time and became heavily utilized as a tank destroyer, similar to later vehicles such as the Jagdpanzer.
