Add authentic Vietnam War-era precision ordnance to your 1/48 scale jet aircraft models with this detailed 3D printed AGM-62 Walleye glide bomb set from MPM Hobbies. As one of the first television-guided weapons deployed in combat, the Walleye represents a revolutionary advancement in precision-guided munitions—and now you can recreate that legacy with museum-quality detail on your A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair II, and other attack aircraft.
Historical Significance
The AGM-62 Walleye holds a distinguished place in military aviation history as one of the first television-guided glide bombs ever deployed. Produced by Martin Marietta and used by the United States Armed Forces from the 1960s through the 1990s, the Walleye proved its effectiveness during the Vietnam War, where it was employed against high-value targets including bridges, bunkers, and command facilities. This revolutionary weapon allowed pilots to deliver precision strikes while remaining outside the range of most anti-aircraft defenses, significantly improving mission success rates and aircrew survivability.
Operational Details
Despite its designation as an "air-to-ground missile," the AGM-62 Walleye is actually an unpowered glide bomb equipped with sophisticated guidance avionics, similar in concept to the more modern GBU-15. The weapon employed a television camera in its nose that transmitted real-time video to the launching aircraft, allowing the weapons system operator to guide the bomb to its target using a small joystick. Most Walleye variants carried a 250 lb (113 kg) high-explosive warhead, though some specialized versions were equipped with nuclear warheads for strategic targets. The Walleye remained in service until it was superseded by the AGM-65 Maverick missile in the 1990s.

3D Printing Information
Item(s) is/are LCD-based SLA printed using UV cured resin and will be shipped unpainted and with 3D print supports attached. Item can be primed with acrylic, lacquer or enamel type paint. Lightly sand and/or prime any horizontal striations due to the printing process. Remove supports starting from the tip down and start by freeing those supports connected to small and fragile details. Recommend using CA for attaching item to model or filling any imperfections. Item(s) will have features that are brittle or extremely delicate and prone to breaking if not properly handled. 3D print support configurations may be different than the ones in the photos if applicable. Photos may include the CAD rendered file used for printing to highlight details that do not stand out well in regular photos. Not intended for small children due to choking hazard and should only be purchased by experienced modelers due fine details and printer support removal. The number of items in your order is calculated by multiplying the quantity you selected by the number of items per set if applicable. All items are printed in the order they are purchased.
Modeling Tips
For best results, clean any support material carefully with a sharp hobby knife and test-fit the weapon to your aircraft's pylon before final assembly. Prime the resin with a quality primer designed for resin parts, then paint according to your chosen scheme. Most AGM-62 Walleye weapons were finished in overall white or light gray with black nose sections housing the television camera. Reference photos will help ensure accurate finish and markings for your specific aircraft and time period.
